In the media and our everyday lives, there is a lot of negative headlines and news in the world. Not to mention the personal circumstances we face in our everyday lives. As a person who wants to achieve success, you need to be defiant of the negative news being peddled around. Reason being, it is very easy to get drawn into the negativity and end up feeling very depressed about the future. It does not really matter whether the media presents the news in a positive or negative angle; what is important is you having a POSITIVE attitude at all times. This is especially important in business.
1) Your attitude has the ability to win you customers or make you lose them
Take a moment and think about a shopping experience. Think about walking into two shops offering the same products. The first shop you see is not looking very good and you find that members of the staff are talking to each other about how the economy is hard on the business while at the same not acknowledging customers who have come to buy. On the other hand, the second shop is neat, well looked after and members of the staff greet you in a welcoming and friendly manner with the manager telling you how well they are doing. If you are like me, you will most probably buy from the second shop.
Another great example when it comes to attitude and being positive is imagine if you are at a networking event. You first come across a marketing executive who is very positive and she starts by telling you about the marketing ideas you can use for your business because already, the same has proven to work with other businesses in the past. The second marketing executive you meet does not look very radiant, and he starts by telling you about the number of clients he has lost and how everyone these days is very busy cutting their marketing budgets. Again, if you are like me, you will use the first executive for your marketing efforts.
2) The impact your attitude has on your business
Believe it or not, your attitude will rub off on your potential and existing customers, members of your staff, your investors, your suppliers and anyone you come across with when doing business. The attitude you have will be infectious to those around you. When you maintain a positive attitude, everyone in your company will feel the same and as a result, customers will feel inclined to do business with you.
On the other hand, if you attitude is negative, chances are high that the opposite is likely to happen. No one will feel inclined to be around you; members of staff will feel demotivated, and customers will not feel the need to do business with you. At the end of the day, the performance of your business will deteriorate. You might also see some employees start to resign.
When you empower yourself with a positive attitude, you will feel confident and in control and as a result, you will tend to perform at your best. A negative attitude will go a long way in harming performance, damaging confidence, paralyzing your mental skills and worse still, having a negative impact on your health.
3) How to have a positive attitude
To maintain a positive attitude in business, you need to only look at the positive side of things. It is important that you are aware of your thoughts and have a strong focus on how you think about different situations. One of the hardest challenges when it come to how to have a positive attitude, is to leave your personal problems at home. This has become one of the most challenging issues because outside your business there is your personal life. It’s very difficult to leave your personal life at home. Challenge any negative thoughts with positive thinking. Sometimes it is easier said than done, but it is important to present a positive attitude to others. Surround yourself with positive thinkers. Tie your attitude to a long-term value rather than a short-term emotion. This alone goes a really long way when you have a lot on your plate and are dealing with negativity.
It can be challenging to maintain a strong focus and be positive when there is so much negativity in the world and in our everyday lives. Maintaining that positive attitude and not forget to think long term and focus on the end result should help your feel better and achieve your easier goals.
